According to the nation’s deputy digital minister, Alex Bornyakov, 60% of suppliers have been able to accept cryptocurrency as payment for combat essentials such as helmets and bulletproof vests. This comes after the Ukrainian government’s Twitter accounts requested cryptocurrency donations in bitcoin, ethereum, and USDT stablecoin in the early days of the war.\n\nThe use of cryptocurrency has allowed for a faster and more efficient process in securing vital items for Ukraine’s defense. Bornyakov stated that traditional financial systems would have taken days, but with crypto, they were able to secure purchases in no time. He also expressed surprise at the number of suppliers who were able to accept crypto, including companies manufacturing goods like bulletproof vests, helmets, and optics.\n\nThe Crypto Fund Aid For Ukraine initiative, powered by Ukraine-based crypto platform Kuna and blockchain company Everstake, has raised one-third of the donated amount. This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and has been deemed a success by Bornyakov, not just in terms of funds raised but also in terms of efficiency and speed.\n\nIn addition to bitcoin, ethereum, and USDT, Ukraine has also received donations in other cryptocurrencies such as cardano, solana, polkadot, and USDC stablecoin. These donations have allowed for the purchase of military equipment, including medical kits, rifle scopes, optical sights, and thermal imagers.\n\nThe use of cryptocurrency has been crucial for Ukraine in the early days of the conflict, as the central bank had introduced limits on foreign currency transfers. Alona Shevchenko, co-founder of Ukraine DAO, stated that without crypto, there was no other way to cover the immediate needs of defenders.
