Around the turn of the decade, Suzlon was on the verge of bankruptcy. Caused by the combination of galloping debts and an Indian domestic market that was at a virtual standstill at the time of its inception. Only because no one could seemingly be enticed to take over the turbine manufacturer did it remain in its own hands, kept afloat by a number of banks that seemed to be holding on mainly because the alternative was marginally worse.
