In response, the Ukrainian government has turned to cryptocurrency donations to quickly and efficiently acquire essential combat supplies.\n\nAccording to Ukrainian deputy digital minister Alex Bornyakov, around 60% of suppliers have been able to accept cryptocurrency as payment for items such as helmets and bulletproof vests. This has allowed for a swift and effective response to the urgent need for military equipment.\n\nThe use of cryptocurrency donations began in February 2022, just two days after the war broke out. The Ukrainian government’s Twitter accounts posted requests for donations in bitcoin, ethereum, and the USDT stablecoin. Since then, more than 100,000 people have sent crypto to Ukraine, with some donations coming from Russians.\n\nBornyakov described the donations as varying from one dollar’s worth, to millions of dollars. He also noted that even companies manufacturing goods like bulletproof vests and helmets have been able to receive crypto as payment.\n\nThe success of the Crypto Fund Aid For Ukraine initiative, which is powered by Ukraine-based crypto platform Kuna and blockchain company Everstake, has been a significant factor in the acquisition of military equipment. Bornyakov praised the initiative for its efficiency and speed in accessing funds through crypto.\n\nIn addition to bitcoin, ethereum, and USDT, Ukraine has also received donations in other cryptocurrencies such as cardano, solana, polkadot, and the USDC stablecoin. These donations have allowed for the purchase of medical kits, rifle scopes, optical sights, and thermal imagers, as reported by Ukraine’s vice-prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov.\n\nThe use of cryptocurrency donations has proven to be faster and more efficient than traditional financial systems, allowing for a swift response to the urgent need for military equipment.
