The nation’s deputy digital minister disclosed that a considerable number of suppliers, nearly 60%, have agreed to accept cryptocurrencies in exchange for essential combat gear, including helmets and bulletproof vests. The Ukrainian government’s request for cryptocurrency donations was broadcasted via social media, with a focus on bitcoin, ethereum, and the USDT stablecoin. Notably, a segment of these donations has come from Russian citizens, who have generously supported Ukraine’s cause.

Alex Bornyakov, the deputy digital minister, noted that this method allowed the country to quickly obtain crucial supplies, with a significant number of suppliers prepared to accept cryptocurrency payments. Facing power outages during his interview, Bornyakov underscored the success of this tactic, which has been vital in equipping Ukrainian defenders with the necessary gear.
The Crypto Fund Aid For Ukraine initiative has been instrumental in this endeavor, contributing to one-third of the total donations received. This initiative, endorsed by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and in collaboration with the local crypto platform Kuna and blockchain company Everstake, has been praised for the substantial amount raised and the expedited access to funds via cryptocurrency.
The tangible results of these donations have been confirmed by Ukraine’s vice-prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who verified the acquisition of diverse military equipment, such as medical kits, rifle scopes, optical sights, thermal imagers, and vehicles. The crypto community’s support has been pivotal from the onset of the conflict, enhancing the country’s defense capabilities.
