This collaboration, announced on February 20, 2025, aims to make everyday essentials more accessible to consumers by leveraging Walgreens and Duane Reade’s extensive network of locations. The collaboration will be scaled nationally, with an initial focus on major markets like Chicago and New York City. Through Grubhub’s platform, Walgreens can now offer an additional same-day delivery service that is reliable and convenient.

With this partnership, 15,000 products will now be available for delivery, further strengthening the company’s digital commerce and omni-channel capabilities. Customers will be able to access a wide range of items, including health and wellness products, beauty items, snacks, personal care goods, household essentials, and even toys. This move is part of Walgreens’ strategy to meet the growing consumer demand for convenience and immediate access to products.

According to Grubhub’s data, customers who shop from convenience merchants tend to order more frequently—nearly three times as much per month as those who do not use these services. This insight emphasizes the role convenience plays in consumers’ daily lives and suggests the potential for increased customer retention and satisfaction through partnerships like this. Craig Whitmer, Vice President of New Verticals at Grubhub, shared his excitement about the collaboration, noting that both companies stand to benefit from this mutual partnership.

This partnership is part of Walgreens’ broader strategy to evolve beyond the traditional pharmacy model and stay competitive in the changing retail landscape. Walgreens and Duane Reade have also joined Grubhub+, the loyalty program that offers perks like no delivery fees, discounted priority delivery, and exclusive offers to members.
