(NASDAQ: CHTR) have announced a transformative multi-year distribution agreement poised to reshape the video landscape by seamlessly integrating linear television and streaming services. This pioneering collaboration, unveiled on September 12, 2024, is designed to enhance customer value by delivering a more adaptable and comprehensive video bundle tailored to modern viewing preferences.

Together, they are set to revolutionize video distribution by incorporating the ad-supported Max service—alongside HBO, Max content, and Discovery+—into all Spectrum TV Select packages at no extra charge.This agreement significantly enhances the value of these packages, adding approximately $60 per month in retail DTC offerings, which already include popular services like Disney+, ESPN+, Paramount+, AMC+, BET+, and Vix.

Discovery, underscored the strategic significance of the partnership, stating, “This innovative collaboration with Charter underscores the value of our linear content and the significant investments we’ve made in premium programming, sports, and news, while dramatically expanding the reach of Max’s ad-supported service to Spectrum’s millions of Select customers.” He also noted that the agreement was reached nearly a year ahead of schedule, laying the groundwork for the future and increasing access to Warner Bros. Discovery’s vast content portfolio.

Chris Winfrey, President and CEO of Charter Communications, emphasized the substantial benefits of this partnership for Spectrum’s ability to offer more flexible packages. He commented, “The inclusion of Max’s ad-supported service and Discovery+ in our most popular packages, at no additional cost, ensures we provide exceptional value to our customers.” Winfrey also highlighted the integration of live linear TV, DVR, VOD, DTC, and SVOD content with unified search and discovery tools, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The agreement also extends Spectrum’s carriage of Warner Bros. Discovery’s extensive linear network lineup, featuring prominent channels such as TNT, CNN, HGTV, Food Network, Discovery, TLC, TBS, Adult Swim, and Investigation Discovery.

Additionally, the deal establishes Max as a “preferred partner” for Spectrum in the marketing and distribution of DTC apps and bundles to broadband subscribers, unlocking significant growth opportunities across Charter’s entire video and broadband customer base. Looking ahead, Spectrum plans to fully deploy its DTC distribution to broadband customers in 2025, following the 2024 rollout of DTC inclusion and upgrade offers.
